WELCOME TO THE CHARLES NEW CHURCH BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP
The Fellowship meets every Sunday in Church from 9a – 10.15am to Study the bible. The Session is highly interactive. The group is headed by a Coordinator appointed by the members. Currently, Mrs Prudence Gikunda is the coordinator. Through the reading, members discuss the content and relate it to their real life situations. This has greatly built the faith of members. On December 17th 2017, Bible study group held its end of year get together to review the program and performance. Below is the Coordinator’s address.
CNC BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP: CO-ORDINATOR’S SPEECH: 17TH DECE. 2017
Praise God dear brothers and sisters in Christ. I thank God for the opportunity to address you this afternoon. Let me start by thanking each one of you for availing yourself today. I cannot take it for granted that you found time to be here on a Sunday afternoon. As we all know this is the festive season and it is for this reason the committee decided that we have this fellowship today so that we can celebrate God’s doing in our lives before we break for Christmas holidays. It is a day to celebrate the Lord and to offer a sacrifice of thanks giving in our own special way. God has been gracious to us throughout the year and it is a good thing for us to take a few hours to worship and thank Him for his goodness and mercy even as we are about to commemorate the gift of His Son that He so freely gave us.
Having said this, I would like to highlight a few things. At the beginning of this year we set up our calendar of events namely- quarterly prayer days, retreats, social responsibility events, training , leading one Sunday Service in the year, and visits/fellowships in members homes. Due to some challenges and the main church calendar we were not able to accomplish all of them. However, I am glad to report that we were able to hold all our quarterly prayer fellowships which is commendable. The prayer days have been a blessing and encouragement to each one of us and I truly thank God for giving us the opportunity to be in his presence and seek His face in prayer. Thank you Team Bible Study for availing yourselves for the prayer sessions. We also lead the Sunday Service on June 26th ( we offered all the services including preaching) . The very fact that we got an opportunity to lead the service is a clear indication that we are growing spiritually and we are putting into practice what we are learning all to the glory of God. Finally we had an opportunity to fellowship with three families in their homes when they were bereaved. ( Beatrice Kanini’s family, Geoffrey and Catherine Mwenda’s family and Elizabeth and David Kinyua’s family). The word of God encourages us to “Rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn ( Rom. 12:15). We thank God that we were able to offer the ministry of mercy by visiting these families at their time of need. Thank you very much Team Bible Study for the act of mercy.
The Sunday Bible studies have been a time of deep reflection, learning and interrogating the word of God which cannot be done during the Sunday service. I must confess that this has been my most fulfilling time in my Christian walk. We started the year by using study guide book “ MARY THE LORD’S SERVANT”. Our first study helped us to understand the statement “ NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE’ based on Luke 1:26-38 and our last study was a reflection on OUR SPIRITUAL LEGACY. ( ACTS 1:12-14,2:1-4). I believe we were all blessed and learnt some important spiritual lessons from the study guide book.
In July we took a bold step of faith to study the PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE – WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE’. I am convinced that we have learnt great lessons from these studies and it is my prayer that as we continue studying the PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE- at the end of the study we will have found out what our purpose in life is.
I must confess that when we started studying the Purpose driven life I had no idea where it would lead us, however, at this particular moment I am convinced that this was the best decision we made.
Now that have come to the end of year 2017 what should be our focus or 2018? It is my prayer that the Lord will take us to higher heights in 2018 than he did in 2017. Let me mention that we have had this BSF from 2011 that is 7 years. It is time we moved from our comfort zones in order for us to bring others to come SEE AND HEAR what we have Seen and heard. Let us be like the Samaritan woman who after the encounter with Jesus at the well went out to the town and said to the people, “ COME, SEE A MAN ----(JOHN 4:29)
In Matt. 28:18-20 Jesus told his disciples “ go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” As we plan our calendar of events for year 2018 let us have in mind that we have a ministry to fulfill. Let us be like River Jordan that receives and gives out its waters to other rivers and not like the Dead Sea that receives but net gives out.
Let me conclude by sincerely appreciating each one of you for your dedication throughout the year. You found time to attend the Bible Study Fellowship every other Sunday at 9am and sometimes at 8.30am This cannot be taken for granted. I truly thank God for you and pray that God will grant us the grace to continue with the same dedication in year 2018.
As we break for Christmas holidays let me take this opportunity to wish you and your families a MERRY CHRTISMAS AND A PROSPEROUS YEAR 2018. MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU.
